Professor  Liping Yu, 

YU Liping, PhD, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and “West Lake Scholar” Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang Gongshang University, has long been deeply engaged in teaching and research in the fields of science and technology evaluation, technological innovation, and information management, characterized by a distinctive interdisciplinary research paradigm. His academic achievements are prolific: he has published 11 monographs and over 500 papers, including more than 80 first-author papers in top-tier journals and over 300 first-author papers in CSSCI-indexed journals. Twelve of his works have been included in Xinhua Digest, and nine have been fully reprinted by Renmin University of China Copy Materials. He has edited 1 national planned textbook and 9 other textbooks, and led 5 national-level projects, as well as 9 projects from the Ministry of Education (for humanities and social sciences) and provincial-level initiatives. As a pioneer in China’s e-commerce education, he established the country’s first e-commerce program in 1998. He also led the planning of the “West Lake Liberal Arts Evaluation” project, releasing the Evaluation Report on the Development of Liberal Arts in Chinese Universities—which provides a systematic evaluation and ranking of humanities and social sciences in undergraduate universities across China—and spearheaded the compilation of series reports such as the Report on the Development of Healthy Living in Chinese Cities and the Report on the Competitiveness Development of Chinese Seaport Cities, gaining extensive influence in the field.

In terms of academic services and platform development, YU Liping serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Measurement and Evaluation and the Associate Editor of the serial publication Measurement and Evaluation. He is also a member of the editorial board of journals including Journal of Scientific & Technical Information Research and Journal of Library and Information Science in Agriculture, and a reviewer for more than 20 domestic and international core journals (e.g., Journal of Informetrics, China Soft Science, Science Research Management). His academic affiliations cover key positions: Deputy Director of the National Committee on Scientometrics and Informetrics, Director of the relevant committee of the Chinese Association of Science of Science and S&T Policy, and Review Expert of the “14th Five-Year Plan” Discipline Group for Philosophy and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province, deeply participating in academic organization and review work in the field.

His academic contributions are pioneering and systematic. At the theoretical level, he was the first to propose the concepts of “Big Data Economics” and “Big Data Statistics,” laying the theoretical foundation for these domains. In the field of science and technology evaluation methods, he optimized over 10 multi-attribute evaluation methods, innovated 7 new methods, and constructed a unified theory of natural weight, design weight, and actual weight. In science and technology performance measurement, he pioneered theories (e.g., industrial innovation speed/quality, breakthrough innovation) and proposed new measurement methods for S&T policies and achievement transformation. In bibliometrics and scientometrics, he originally developed over 10 indicators (e.g., Influence Index, Classic Index), revised the impact factor, and put forward the “Citation Peak Paradox”; he also introduced concepts like “stock index” and “time paradox” into academic evaluation for the first time, advancing the deepening of academic evaluation theory.

YU Liping’s academic achievements and personal contributions have been widely recognized. He has been selected as a Zhejiang 151 Talent (Second Level) and Ningbo Academic Leading Talent, and honored with titles including Excellent Teacher of Zhejiang Province and Excellent Discipline Leader of Jiangsu Province’s “Blue Project.” He has won 1 Second Prize (Jiangsu Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Award) and 2 Third Prizes in provincial-level achievement evaluations. His research and viewpoints have attracted attention from domestic and international media: he has been interviewed by authoritative outlets such as Nature magazine, the UK’s THE University Rankings, and China Social Sciences Daily, with his academic influence extending to relevant fields worldwide.
